Front End Developer

Carnegie is looking for a dynamic Front-End Developer to join the Web Delivery team. Write elegant and robust front-end code for unique custom features, as well as a variety of flexible components for large-scale design systems for higher education websites. 

As a Front-End Developer, you’ll join an experienced team of strategists, designers, and developers to bring education brands to life through immersive digital experiences.

Responsibilities:

  • Code sophisticated, modern, beautiful responsive websites for colleges, universities, independent schools, and professional schools 
  • Translate mockups from design applications like Sketch and Marvel into functional, interactive, responsive, browser-friendly front-end code
  • Build new design systems and evolve existing ones
  • Structure front-end code to be seamlessly implemented into various Content Management Systems, i.e., WordPress, Drupal, Omni CMS, and Cascade CMS.
  • Compose visually refined and functional animations/ interactions using advanced JS knowledge and tools

Qualifications:

  • Expert knowledge HTML/CSS/JS
  • Experience working with JS libraries, such as Greensock’s Library for User Interaction animations
  • Proficient knowledge of building websites that adhere to W3C Web Accessibility best practices ● Excellent understanding of how to code for implementation into Content Management Systems, i.e., WordPress, Drupal, Omni CMS, and Cascade CMS
  • Proficient experience creating flexible, robust design systems
  • Basic understanding of server-side principles
  • Functional knowledge of AJAX techniques and using JSON
  • Superior knowledge of optimization principles and techniques (Image Optimization, Code Minification, etc).
  • Understanding of current and legacy browser capabilities
  • Functional knowledge of Git
  • Familiarity with project management tools such as Harvest, Asana, Google Workspace Suite, or similar applications
  • An excellent ability to think on your feet and apply feedback efficiently and critically ● An ability to communicate ideas clearly and professionally, both spoken and written ● A willingness to collaborate and share your process / work-in-progress with a team ● A proactive and self-starter mindset
  • Impeccable attention to detail to deliver the highest quality work
  • Capacity to work on multiple projects concurrently
  • Awareness of project scope and timelines to effectively meet deadlines
  • Motivation and curiosity to keep up with current development trends and cutting-edge technologies

Experience

  • B.A. in Computer Science or a similar field is preferred but not required
  • A minimum of two years of professional experience in a similar role and a proven track record executing complex design project
