UI/UX Designer
Carnegie is looking for a UI/UX Designer with exceptional visual design skills, knowledge of user experience best practices, and expertise in responsive web design. Our ideal candidate has a passion for human-centered web experiences and the talent to produce prototypes with the latest design tools. You’ll craft user-centric wireframes and visually exquisite, flexible, and robust design systems for the web.
As a UI/UX Designer, you’ll join an experienced team of strategists, designers, and developers to bring education brands to life through elegant, immersive digital experiences. Success in this role requires an idea-first approach in which you ground your designs in research and strategy.
Responsibilities:
- Design sophisticated, modern, beautiful mobile-first websites for colleges, universities, independent schools, and professional schools
- Create new design systems and evolve existing ones
- Create interactive wireframes and design system prototypes
- Participate in design sprints
- Work with UX strategists, content strategists, and peer designers to create human-centered experiences.
- Closely collaborate with front-end developers to bring prototypes and visual designs to life.
- Work within client identity guidelines and contribute to developing identity elements as needed.
Qualifications:
- Extensive knowledge and love of typography, color, layout, photography, motion, and illustration for the web
- Highly skilled in using modern design tools such as Sketch, Marvel and Figma
- Ability to conceptualize and create wireframe prototypes
- Proficient experience creating flexible, robust design systems
- Familiarity with design systems and frameworks
- Basic functional understanding of HTML/CSS/JS and frameworks
- Experience designing websites that adhere to W3C Web Accessibility best practices
- Familiarity with designing for implementation into Content Management Systems, i.e., WordPress, Drupal, Omni CMS, and Cascade CMS.
- Familiarity with project management tools such as Harvest, Asana, Google Workspace Suite, or similar applications
- An excellent ability to think on your feet and apply feedback efficiently and critically
- An ability to communicate ideas clearly and professionally, both spoken and written
- A willingness to collaborate and share your process / work-in-progress with a team
- A proactive and self-starter mindset
- Impeccable attention to detail to deliver the highest quality work
- Capacity to work on multiple projects concurrently
- Awareness of project scope and timelines to effectively meet deadlines
- Motivation and curiosity to keep up with current design trends and cutting-edge technologies
- Familiarity with motion/animation design principles and tools for the web preferred
- Experience in art direction for photography, video, and illustration, preferred
Experience
- BA in graphic design, UI/UX design, or web design, preferred
- A minimum of two years of professional experience in a similar role and a proven track record executing complex design projects
