Director, Paid Search

 The Director of Paid Search leads and manages the Paid Search team, ensuring Paid Search campaigns are set up in a timely manner, align with client goals, and are effectively managed for client success. They play a strategic role on a handful of key clients while also being responsible for team development and Paid Search growth at Carnegie. The Director of Paid Search will manage 2-4 employees on the Paid Search team. 

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Team Management
    • Oversee the Paid Search team as they develop Paid Search strategies, set up campaigns, and make optimizations
    • Ensure the Paid Search team is effectively managing campaigns and driving client satisfaction.
    • Create and lead Paid Search training and own team development
    • Align and adapt Paid Search best practices with ever-changing digital and higher ed landscapes
    • Delegate client assignments to the rest of the team and monitor team bandwidth
  • Campaign Management and Reporting
    • Oversee recommendations and optimizations around keyword performance, campaign structure, targeting, and Paid Search metrics for key Carnegie clients
    • Work with Digital Strategists to dictate the Paid Search strategy for proposal requests, RFPs, and strategy pivots in order to achieve client goals
    • Review and approve Paid Search team insights and recommendations to ensure they meet client expectations and align with campaign data
    • Monitor the development and set up of Discovery and Performance Max campaigns
  • Internal Team
    • Work collaboratively in a team environment
    • Strategically coordinate with other channel Directors and digital leadership to align on, and push forward the strategic growth vision of the larger digital team
    • Demonstrate thought leadership by keeping pace with Paid Search industry trends as well as bring forward ideas around process improvements, best practices, and tests
    • Work closely with Google Account Executive to support agencies’ Google Premier Partnership credential
    • Expand leadership role into the digital and company-wide teams by leading large team trainings
  • Supervisory Responsibilities
    • Interview and hire new team members
    • Oversee the daily workflow of specific employees
    • Provide constructive and timely performance evaluations
    • Play an integral part in training and onboarding employees for the Paid Search team
    • Work closely with and provide mentorship to Paid Search Associates and Specialists on keyword creation, campaign setup, and optimizations

Knowledge/Skills/Abilities:

  • Excellent attention to detail and the ability to effectively multitask in a deadline-driven atmosphere
  • Demonstrated problem-solving and critical thinking skills through independent troubleshooting of issues before escalating to other team members
  • Quick learner and ability to adapt to new and changing technologies
  • Clear written communication skills, both internally and externally
  • Passion, energy, and enthusiasm for digital marketing and client success
  • Due to the remote environment, effective communication and time management skills are required, as well as the ability to use/learn multiple technology platforms and switch between them on a regular basis
  • Physical requirement: Must be able to work at a computer for prolonged periods

Credentials and Experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree required; Marketing/Advertising major or concentration is preferred
  • 5 or more years of experience working in Paid Search in the Google Ads platform; Lead generation is a plus.
  • Minimum of 2 years of management experience with direct reports required
  • Team leadership experience in an agency or digital marketing department required
  • Data analysis expertise, particularly experience in analyzing digital campaign metrics to measure success
  • Experience with Asana or other project management tools and Google-based products (Docs, Sheets, and Slides) is a plus
  • Currently certified in Google Ads Paid Search is a plus
