If you’ve been working in SEO copywriting for years and have been closely following the shift to generative search engines, this may be the role for you. Carnegie is seeking a creative individual with exceptional writing skills and expertise in SEO. Working exclusively with higher education institutions, Carnegie’s college and university partners have sought our help with SEO for over a decade. Now, we’re leading our clients into the new era of AEO. In this role, you will tell each institution’s unique story in a way that resonates with prospective students and is discoverable by AI search engines. Not only will the successful candidate be an excellent storyteller, but they’ll also be excited to leverage AI and adapt to the evolving industry. Creating, executing, and leading effective search and answer engine optimization (AEO) strategies, they will be able to craft exceptional, authoritative content that resonates with audiences and is discoverable by search and answer engines, such as Google AI Overviews/Mode, ChatGPT, and Perplexity.

  • Utilizing various data sources—Google Search Console, Google Analytics, keyword research tools, and LLM SaaS tools— to create multimedia content strategies that drive visibility and engagement.
  • Optimizing existing webpages and writing new content, including academic program pages, blog posts, and thought leadership, to enhance search and AI engine visibility and citations.
  • Optimizing images, videos, and Google Business Profiles.
  • Analyzing performance, creating Google Looker Studio dashboards, and presenting strategic results to clients.
  • Utilizing AI to drive efficiency and output.

  • Experience with or a passion for higher education marketing
  • Experience with content management systems such as WordPress or Drupal
