Research Study: Fall 2021 COVID-19 Impact

The Spring Comparison Study

After a year of uncertainty, students entering college in fall 2021 are making their final college decisions. While there are promising trends toward an end to the pandemic, students still have concerns. In a continuing effort to give a voice to the high school Class of 2021 and assist the industry in making decisions, Carnegie has prepared a new report based on more than 4,000 survey responses collected in March 2021.

Fall 2021 COVID-19 Impact: The Spring Comparison Study

Data highlights.

The students surveyed, all entering college in fall 2021, come from our CollegeXpress database. Questions were developed with three goals in mind: to compare FA2021 students to FA2020 results collected at the same time last year; to compare how FA2021 students have changed since our previous surveys in October and May 2020; and to uncover new trends surrounding vaccine requirements. Some of the highlights of the report include:

3%

of students are likely to delay due to the pandemic

84%

applied to at least one test-optional institution this cycle

66%

of students are already vaccinated or intend to be vaccinated by the start of the fall semester
